3 Tips for Infant Massage

Life with a newborn all begins with communicating your love through touch. Creating a ritual around giving your baby a massage is a sweet way to build trust and support your baby. When your baby knows how to relax, then he can use this comforting ritual to help through the tougher times when he may experience discomfort.

1) Ask permission from your baby before you start. (remember this is about communication and listening to baby’s cues)

2) Be sure your baby is in a calm, alert state. (have the space warm and low lighting)

3) Use a firm and gentle touch. (too light feels ticklish- your baby needs to feel your confidence to experience security)

This is a wonderful practice to establish before your baby starts crawling. Once your baby is crawling, the massage will be modified for your mover and still bring amazing benefits. Babies who experience the comfort of massage from an early age are often willing to connect through touch as they grow.
